CCTV

Closed-circuit television (CCTV), which is also known as video surveillance, is the use of video cameras to transmit a signal to a specific place on a set of monitors. It differs from broadcast television because the signal is not openly transmitted. Even though almost all video cameras fit this definition, the term is most often applied to those used for surveillance in areas that may need monitoring. These areas can be casinos, airports, city streets, military bases, banks, convenience store and more.

IP Video

IP Video refers to an Internet protocol camera, or IP camera and it is a type of digital video camera commonly employed for surveillance. Unlike analog closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras, IP Video can send and receive data via a computer network and the Internet. Most cameras that do this are webcams, the term IP camera or sometimes referred to as “netcam” is usually only applied to those used for surveillance.

There are two kinds of IP cameras:

  • Centralized IP cameras, which require a central Network Video Recorder, also referred to as NVR, which handles recording, video and alarm management.
  • Decentralized IP cameras, which do not require a central Network Video Recorder, as the cameras have recording function built-in and can record directly to any storage media like an SD Card or server.

Cloud Based Storage

Cloud Based Storage refers to a file hosting service. This stores files online with a particular storage provider. Sometimes the term cyberlocker is used to describe an Internet hosting service specifically designed to host user files. It allows users to upload files that could then be accessed over the internet from any computer, tablet, smart phone or other network device, by the same user or possibly by other users, with an authentication process. Typically, the services allow HTTP access, and sometimes FTP access. Related services are content-displaying hosting services, virtual storage, and remote backup.
